Based on experiences with their other locations we've gone twice to Kaluz since it opened, sitting once at the bar area and the other time at a regular table. The first impression one receives is the spacious open-air look pervading the restaurant. Though every foot of the area is used, tables are well separated, servers are smartly dressed and customers can expect smooth sailing through their dining experience. On second impression, one sadly notes formica tabletops in their booths that could be found in any cafeteria (an incongruity given the money obviously spent on the decor), a small outdoor seating area which suffers from looking directly at the parking lot and a busily trafficked Pines Boulevard (some landscaping would work well here) and interior restaurant lights turned on so brightly you may feel you're on some showcase display ("dimmers" is the word you're looking for). The food and drink is varied and taste ranged from good to very good with the potential to be excellent: A Bistro Salad was very fresh, filling and had the nice original touch to include cornbread croutons. The Roasted Beet salad also had a fresh, clean taste though a bit less on the overpowering citrus (mandarin oranges, grapefruit *and* citrus vinaigrette?) and more emphasis on the beet namesake (only 4-5 small pieces) would have been better. A full rack of ribs was good value and had a nice Kansas City Barbecue sauce that was not too sweet or tart to detract from the generous fall-off-the-bone meat, however they arrived at room temperature and quickly dropped to an almost inedible cold within minutes. When the server asked how everything was and if anything else was needed, I asked for another drink and mentioned the glacial ribs. Her response was pursed lips, an indifferent head tilt and... I'm still waiting for that other drink. In spite of these missteps I will try Kaluz again and hopefully ascribe those lapses as part of the grand opening process.
