About

Frankie and Johnnie's Steakhouse started way back in 1926 as a speakeasy, but today it is an iconic steakhouse that's known for having some of the best steaks, chops, and more in the city. Legend has it that the original speakeasy patrons had to knock on an unmarked door and use the password "Frankie" to get in, and if the coast was clear to enter, the reply would be "Johnnie". Frankie and Johnnie stuck as a moniker, and at this location in the heart of the Theater District, you'll find plenty to love. It's a spacious spot with an elegant and polished interior, a long bar, and plenty of room for fabulous dining. Treat yourself to the prix fixe menu and enjoy a salad, entree, and dessert for a set price. Or, pick from USDA Prime dry-aged steaks like a juicy ribeye, filet mignon, or porterhouse for two. The chops are equally decadent, with picks like lamb and pork chops. Fresh-from-the-water seafood is also featured, and the filet mignon and lobster tail combo is not to be missed. Every dish is perfectly prepared and presented, and with world-class service, every meal at Frankie and Johnnie's Steakhouse is divine! • We just went for cocktails before the theater this time, but it was so great, we made a reservation for dinner for a future date. This was my dad's favorite steakhouse in the 60's and 70's, so even though it's now in a new location, had a very nostalgic feel for me. Liz at the bar made a great martini and Brianna at the front desk was warm and welcoming. Highly recommended.

  • I wanted a light dinner and ordered a Hot Starter and a Vegetable, along with a cocktail and glass of wine. Everything was delicious and served graciously and promptly. The vegetable serving (creamed spinach) was very generous, enough for 2 people. The restaurant is on Restaurant Row in Manhattan, and I went during Restaurant Week. I expected it would be crowded and noisy, but it was a relaxing dinner with attentive service.

  • The Frankie & Johnnie's on 46th has a very interesting and appealing look to it. There lighting is not too bright, nor too dim. There are famous broadway posters all around the walls. And there is a classy bar with some TVs adjacent to the dining areas. My partner and I both enjoyed our filets. Mine was a perfect medium and hers a perfect medium rare - both as requested. I selected their three course restaurant week special which included a first course, for which I chose a salad, and a third course, for which I chose cheesecake. All of my food was as good as I could expect, and I'd say the steak was even better. The filet came with garlic mashed potatoes that were amazing, and fresh steamed broccoli that needed a bit of salt and pepper. The salad was somewhat basic with some red peppers and mushrooms topped with a house vinaigrette. The cheesecake was delicious. My partner ordered the filet and lobster tail entree with a side of asparagus. She also really enjoyed the steak, and her lobster tail was the best she's had. Similar to the broccoli, the asparagus was a bit bland and lacked anything special to really appreciate spending $17 on it. I can't be too critical as they are listed as "fresh asparagus" on the menu, so it essentially implies they are plain unless specified otherwise. Both of us enjoyed our drinks. I had a reposado old fashioned, and she had a dirty martini. The only issue I had was waiting about 20 minutes after our table was cleared before needing to ask our server for our check. He was otherwise a very kind and accommodating gentleman. I would certainly dine here again.
