About

The essence of culinary Vietnam has found its way to the streets of Chicago, and a quick trip to Hai Yen will show you all the wonders. Two locations welcome denizens of the Windy City including this West Argyle spot which provides a simple and unfussy way to spend your day or evening with some fine eats. Local press acclaim and Zagat-ratings have continued to mark Hai Yen as a go-to spot for regular dining appointments. The people come here for a menu that infuses classic Vietnamese flavors to create the likes of Hai Yen's famous Bo La Lot, marinated ground beef wrapped in a Hawaiian leaf then grilled. It's a delightful option, but so are the traditional beef noodle soups (Pho) and exotic salads like the Lotus Root. The menu features more than enough variety to cater to almost any craving, including vegetarian dishes, fresh seafood, noodles, and more. You can even get into the action and fun of cooking Vietnamese food with fondue pots, soup pots, or grills right at your own table. Check out the fresh tapioca fruit drinks, fresh juices, and savory desserts for some added flavor to your visit. NOTEWORTHY: Convenient delivery if you're stuck at home, the office, or a hotel.

  • I had mixed vegetables, rice and chicken. Very nice assortment of veggies and cut in smaller pieces. I had the asparagus soup with crab, and it was fine. We tried the dessert with banana, tapioca and crushed peanuts and it was warm. I liked it, but I would have loved it, if it did not have banana in it. Warm banana was weird for me, but it is probably traditional, and other people would love it. My husband who is vegetarian had the salt and pepper tofu, which came with jalapenos, etc. I tried the tofu, alone, and it was delicious to me. My husband tried the Hanoi beer, made with barley malt, rice and hops. I tried it and really liked it - it was mild tasting, and tasty.

  • The food was delicious. It's the only place that we know where you can order the wrapped beef appetizers. It's my favorite dish there.
