Two locations welcome denizens of the Windy City including this West Argyle spot which provides a simple and unfussy way to spend your day or evening with some fine eats. Local press acclaim and Zagat-ratings have continued to mark Hai Yen as a go-to spot for regular dining appointments. The people come here for a menu that infuses classic Vietnamese flavors to create the likes of Hai Yen's famous Bo La Lot, marinated ground beef wrapped in a Hawaiian leaf then grilled. It's a delightful option, but so are the traditional beef noodle soups (Pho) and exotic salads like the Lotus Root. The menu features more than enough variety to cater to almost any craving, including vegetarian dishes, fresh seafood, noodles, and more. You can even get into the action and fun of cooking Vietnamese food with fondue pots, soup pots, or grills right at your own table.   • Hai Yen never disappoints. The food is just like you would get in Vietnam. My go-to favorites are the grilled Hawaiian leaf sausage, the grilled beef short ribs, Prawn on sugarcane (the salt and pepper seasoning is amazing), and lemongrass grilled beef self wrap as a main. The vermeilc noodle bowls are great too. It is one of the few licensed restaurants in the area and the wine list has pretty decent table wines.

  • There is another usual spot I go to for Pho, but this Hai Yen takes the cake. Everything was delicious, the broth for the pho was perfect, the bread for the bahn mi was so fresh and the meat was flavorful, service was great.
